I would definitely say Sky, though Red and Blue hold up well too. But what made Sky great were the backstories to the side characters which added a lot more depth to them.
Plus, their backstories were no walk in the park either.I haven't finished PSMD but it's pretty good so far. It starts off a little slow at the start but picks up once you.
I like the fact you're.My major gripe with the game however, is the Connection Orb system. It makes recruitment and accepting missions seem so clunky. Plus you can't grind in dungeons. More than that however, is for me, the reason Blue/Red and Explorers was so emotional was the fact that you only played as you and your partner for the entirety of the main storyline. When you went into a dungeon, you and your partner had to be on the team. You two stuck together all the time and in the game you two always had each others backs. With PSMD, where you can change team members right at the start of the game, it devalues that bond between the character you made and the partner you chose.
Now, if you wanted, you could be that level 50 Salamence or level 20 Victini with Searing Shot that kills everything in the dungeon. What's the point in choosing to play as my own pokemon and my partner if a stronger lineup already exists so close to the start of the game? Of course, you can choose to not use OP Pokemon.
I know I don't. But the fact that you can choose to so early in game brings down that emotional impact the story can have; where you played your own character with the partner you chose. Not Gates to Infinity.Every other Mystery Dungeon, though rather similar, kept a good run with several essentials1) All known Pokemon up to the release2) Linear but admirable story where everything connects and makes sense in the greater scheme of things.3) Challenging dungeons that actually required strategy to complete.
(HUNGER)What Gates to Infinity did was that they made it very simple. Released in Gen 5, it only contained Gen 5 Pokemon (with the exception of a few major Pokemon characters). The story was once again about saving the world, and I understand that being marketed to younger children, these games do not have complex story lines, but the story of Gates to Infinity dragged on forever. The story progressed slowly not by forcing you into overpowered dungeons making it a grind, but rather CUTSCENES. All i remember from that game was its immaculate cutscenes that dragged on forever.
As a player who enjoys lore and loves storytelling in video games, I find that reading every single dialogue takes forever without real action. But even when it comes to action, the removal of hunger as a gameplay element and the introduction of an (in my opinion) overpowered and rather essential character rather makes all story dungeons laughably easy. That being said, it certainly isn't a train wreck. The improved dungeon mechanics and the story by itself was decent and still enjoyable to some.Rant aside, I've only played Red, EoT and GtI.

And between Red and EoT, its got to be EoT, mainly because its story was rather amazing and it improved upon Red's gameplay while keeping the original flavour. I'm super excited for SPMD and hoping it lives up to my hype.
